Review of graphics patch

Could someone with more experience with the graphics subsystem review the
patch I posted for this bug
(https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?32682)?  The problem is an
infinite recursion when trying to determine the position of the plot title
which leads to a segfault.  I broke the recursion, but I seem to recall
that title positioning was supposed to be iterative so perhaps I haven't
done it in the right way.
