Can we deprecate these two functions? They are aliases (XDEFALIAS in
error.cc) for 'lasterr' which is the Matlab function of the same behavior.
The only places in the code still using these constructs are demo.m and
test.m which would be simple enough to transfer over to lasterr invocations.
