== Design ==
Several people have expressed concern with how to decide on a design
for the GUI. It seems clear that exactly copying Matlab's GUI design
is not a good idea and we can do better. We need to have a healthy
discussion, perhaps slightly flamey [1], about how the GUI should
look. I wish to invite everyone to give their opinion here, and I hope
we can work towards an overall consensus.
I think one of the most important properties of GUIs is that they should conform to some known standard that the user is already familiar with. So, in terms of look and feel, please try to be like some known GUI -- no need to emulate matlab GUI, but at least make it one of the "big ones" -- windows, osx, gnome or kde. Inventing GUI design from scratch will lead to a very frustrating user experience.
