Hi,

so I just installed a new autoconf and all to /usr/local, but it seems it's 
simply not recognised by ./autogen.sh.

Even with autoconf 2.68 installed, the script will complain about version 2.61 
it insists on grabbing from /usr/bin. 

As a last resort, I patched configure.ac to require only autoconf 2.61 and 
automake 1.10. I could finally run configure after that, but now make dies 
right after starting the build:

Making all in libcruft
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `advnst.lo', needed by `libranlib.la'.  
Stop.

So, that's as far as I get building from source on OSX 10.6.8 for the time 
being ...
