Michael, sounds as if we could put the discussion whether to use a terminal emulation or not aside then. Contrary to what I expected, it seems that there is not much demand for Windows anyways. Although Windows has by far the biggest share on the market for consumer or low-end work applications (like games or office), I suspect it's a little different for professional, scientific applications. I admit I feel pedantic to say that, but also developing and aiming actively for a proprietary operating is exactly what free software - including GNU Octave - should not be about when there are free operating systems available. I think I have reached out my hand as much as I could towards you, even offering to prioritize Windows compatibility over other goals (in a kind way, I got admonished for that behaviour already by other people on the mailing list). If you do not invest your spare time to develop for Windows it will simply mean there will be no native Octave GUI for Windows for quite a while.
