time to merge default to stable?

Is there any reason not to merge default to stable now?

I'm not planning any more major changes before the release.

If we do merge default to stable but later decide that we need to make
another 3.4.x release, then as I understand it, we could always go
back an branch again for that, correct?  Not that I'm planning to do
that, I just want to be sure that we could do it if needed.
