I'm going to reverse myself.  I removed qhull2009.1 completely from my
system and then installed qhull2011.2 which I built from scratch.  The
binaries seem to run properly but I can't get Octave to build with the new
version at all.  The configure script will just never find the libraries
despite my adding -I flags, --with-qhull-includedir, and soft linking names.
