Very good to hear that this is moving ahead.  You should check if the copy
of texlive-2011 contains texinfo-tex.  The copy available from the CTAN
source does not, and therefore a copy (the one from Fedora 15, should
be fine) will need to be generated for Fedora 17, or...

Installing from the CTAN ISO image is pretty simple, but RPM would be
simpler if the set from the texlive repository is not used.  This repository
causes several hundred packages to be installed, and it is frequently updated
in a manner such that yum update does not work.  Only yum remove and
manual removal of the remaining tex components (specifically those in
/usr/share/...) then allows a working install of the updated packages. In
addition, the install looks  for a TEXINPUTS environment variable,
and silently fails if it finds one.

I am sure that these problems will get cleared up when TeX is reintegrated
into the Fedora packages.
