Using the default ARPACK installed by the package manager causes the test to fail and Octave is built without eigs support. I downloaded arpack-ng and installed that in /usr/local and the configure test then passes and successfully builds with eigs support. Owing to the vagaries of ldconfig I needed to remove the package manager version of ARPACK before this would work which is advice we might want to pass along. Should we make a note in the NEWS file that ARPACK, which was added in the 3.4.X series, has now been removed? Should we point users to arpack-ng until the distributions get around to building a good copy of ARPACK? --Rik |
