Just in case not everyone knows, an up to date A&S is available
here:
http://people.math.sfu.ca/~cbm/aands/frameindex.htm

Also, values like -10.000001 with varying numbers of zeros,
and close to 10 on the other side all get correct answers.

So, the thing to focus on is the negative integer case.
And, Jordi's idea would likely work.  But, a serious look at the code
is called for.  I did not right away see any special handling for
n negative integer in A&S.
