Bad news, everyone...

Octave got rejected for Google Summer of Code 2012.

If there is one next year, we should try again.

Sad news...
Thanks to everybody for your efforts in preparing the proposals.
Nevertheless, it is good to have a compilation of projects!

Thank you Carlo,

Regarding the installation problem, it has sopmething to do with the
libhdf5 installe din my system (not -serial, cause it doesn't like
gmsh, and the it is reciprocated by gmsh).

Regarding the strange behavior of PKG_ADD. I added a "keyboard"
command to PKG_ADD then track its behavior. The changes happing in the
flow of the code, but finally the file gets overwritten. I will pursue
this more since I am not able to fix geometry so far (when using
custom prefixes).

i will update with my findings.

I can't see why you think there is a link between hdf5 and gmsh.

I posted this in the OF mailing list (my highlight)

Here is the output of apt-get when I try to install libhdf5-serial

The following extra packages will be installed:
 libhdf5-serial-1.8.4
Suggested packages:
 libhdf5-doc
The following packages will be REMOVED:
***** gmsh ****** libhdf5-openmpi-1.8.4 libhdf5-openmpi-dev libmed1
The following NEW packages will be installed:
 libhdf5-serial-1.8.4 libhdf5-serial-dev
0 upgraded, 2 newly installed, 4 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

When installing the dependencies for octave on Debian I experienced the same issue.
I don't remember if it happened on Ubuntu...

On the other bright side, GNU did get accepted.

Atul, Jacob, Ben, Max, I encourage you to submit your applications to
Octave through GNU.

I remember trying to get Otave accepted some years ago, where we also get rejected. One thing that annoyed me was the lack of feedback. Does Google provide any feedback as to why we got rejected this year?

Cheers

They said they might tell us in IRC, but haven't said yet when.

So, yes this will work.  I just need to modify the loadpath.  Btw... I
finished getting gnuplot also compiling and packaging it for Android has
been no problem.  I have created a new android specific term (need to add
zoom and all that later, but the proof of concept is working).  I went back
to revisit why I was having trouble doing the same for octave and made a
few key breakthroughs.  I will tell the group when it is released.

Thanks,
Corbin
