My application for MacPorts membership has been turned down for lack of 
experience while MacPorts is lacking interest and manpower regarding octave. 
The modified portfiles I submitted to the MacPorts forum have not been released 
yet.

I have tried Homebrew which has octave 3.6 but FLTK plotting behaves 
strangely/crashes.
