Fair enough. But as you had issues generating your own run script, I thought another temporary solution could be to add --gui to the existing one. Anyway I'll test your changes under Windows when I get a chance.

yes and no. Usually, you're right. But since the GUI will be launched by the octave command (with a --no-gui option), it makes sense to not clutter run-octave.sh with intermediary code. run-octave-gui.sh would be a temporary solution until we made octave and the GUI a single executable.

Maybe a stupid suggestion, but wouldn't it make sense to add a --gui mode to run-octave.sh instead?
