where does configure detect umfpack & set UMFPACK_LIBS

With SuiteSparse 4.0.x it is necessary to include "-lSuiteSparse" as part of
UMFPACK_LIBS. Bug report is below.

I thought I'd modify the configure process to do that, but am unable to
determine where the check for -lumfpack is located and how the UMFPACK_LIBS is
set.
