fresh build -> error: `unimplemented' not found

This is my first build since autogen -> bootstrap.  My build ended when 
building the docs.  Octave launches with no errors or warnings, but all 
functions return ..

        $ ./run-octave --no-site-file --no-init-file --no-site-file 

        octave:1> path
        error: feval: function `unimplemented' not found

The built-ins work.  Any ideas?
