I would vote for subscribing.
The trackers seem like a very good place to store contributions but not as good 
for carrying on the discussion about them.

In some cases, it makes sense to me to have discussions about bug reports move to the maintainers list. For example, when there is some implementation issue that needs to be decided. But generally, I think it is best to have the discussions kept with the bug reports themselves. That way, when someone searches bug reports later, they will find all the discussion. If the notifications are sent to the maintainers list, I expect that people will start discussing the bugs on the mailing list, and there will be no clue in the tracker that his has happened. People looking later in the tracker will be confused about what happened because they will see only part of the discussion.
