rgb2ind patch

Hi,

I posted a patched version of rgb2ind on the tracker a few weeks ago.
Should I be copying the mailing list when I submit a patch, or is it enough
just to post it to the tracker? (I'm not sure if the lack of response to
the patch means that no-one has found it, or whether there's just not much
interest in it?)

https://savannah.gnu.org/patch/?8001

Anyway, I did some tests against the existing rgb2ind, and this patched
version runs in about 0.25-0.30 of the time taken for the existing version
on my machine. (The speed improvement is even greater than this for large
images, due to less use of swap space.) It also enables handling of ND
images, which I'd find pretty useful.

Thanks,
Adam
