Unnecessary arguments to fltk-config?

All,

Working on a separate problem with fltk-config in configure.ac I see we are
using the following line:

FLTK_CFLAGS=`$FLTK_CONFIG $fltkconf_args --use-gl --cflags`

Is anyone making use of $fltkconf_args or knows what it is for?  A grep
through the entire Octave code base finds it is used only in this
location.  I think this might be cruft, in which case I would remove it.
