Octave itself is compiled with ordinary 32-bit index vectors.
Do you have jit enabled or disabled?
JIT is compiled in, but is not enabled at run time.  The file jit.tst in the test suite will briefly enable it and then disable it, but this is the same in either case (with or without atomic refereces).
