Thanks Jordi for your reply. I am actually interested in contributing to Octave but I am still not sure whether I have time for that or not, because I have a full time job, so I would like to know more about this, like the range of number of hours per week contributors usually spend on projects, and other stuff.

Just a question here on the symbolic computing project, why was GiNaC for the new package? I noticed that it wasn't maintained since 2011!

These are two separate issues. For Android, we have

For iOS, we need a distribution mechanism that does not depend on the
app store, which is GPLv3-incompatible. Locked-down devices that do
not respect user freedoms do not allow GPLv3 programs.
