Is it worth switching to CMake?

Is it worth switching from autotools to cmake for building octave? If
it is worth the effort and if the community is ready to take changes
once it is done I can try to work on this.

Pros:
1. Using cmake will make windows builds easier
2. Easy to manage and extend

Cons:
Needs huge change

Note:
1. I would like to get the opinion before doing any actual work.
2. It will take months to complete this as I am not going to work on
weekends alone.
