emacs octave-mode: octave-send-region does not un-highlight

For some time now I have problems with region highlighting in emacs
octave-mode. Usually, a highlighted region should get un-highlighted after
commands are sent to the octave process. This doesn't work anymore, albeit
in an irregular manner (it works initially but stops working after a few
keystrokes).

Very annoying. Has anabody seen similar behavior?
