Hi,
At OctConf, oheim pointed out to me that the Octave Manual says it is
licensed under a license different from GPL. Contained within the manual
frontmatter is this license:
Permission is granted to make and distribute verbatim copies of
this manual provided the copyright notice and this permission notice
are preserved on all copies.
Permission is granted to copy and distribute modified versions of
this manual under the conditions for verbatim copying, provided that
the entire resulting derived work is distributed under the terms of
a permission notice identical to this one.
Permission is granted to copy and distribute translations of this
manual into another language, under the above conditions for
modified versions.
This license text is found in both doc/interpreter/octave.texi and
doc/liboctave/liboctave.texi. However, the file comment blocks for these
files, and for all other *.texi and *.txi files, declare that they are
under a GPL-3+ license.
By the way, this license can also be found in the standard Linux man
pages, for example.
Is the manual source under GPL-3+ but the generated manual under this
other "verbatim" license somehow? Is this an error or a contradiction,
can this be fixed or clarified?
Confused,
--
mike
