If the Redhat package is not up-to-date, then the best option is to compile
from source. Unfortunately, that means you have to install a whole stack of
other packages, and I'm not sure if there is a list of which ones. When I
first compiled, I just ran "./configure" and waited for it to complain that
something was missing, then installed that and re-ran ./configure.
You can get some hints by looking at the dependencies of the binary package,
but you will need what Debian calls the "development" sources of those
packages (ones with a -dev suffix). These have all of the header files
necessary to link to the libraries, rather than the libraries themselves.
