Dear all,

I am Francesco Faccio, a master's student in Mathematical Engineering at Politecnico of Milan. I would like to express my interest in the project "ode15s: Matlab Compatible DAE solver" for the GSoC 2016.

My academic background gave me skills in Numerical Analysis, Computer Programming and Mathematics. I have experience with C/C++11 and I am familiar with some basic tools (CMake, Valgrind, Git) and parallel computing with OpenMP/MPI. I have implemented a traffic simulator based on the Biham-Middleton-Levine model, dealing with sparse and dense matrices and algorithms. I am currently attending a course on Advanced Programming for Scientific Computing.

I have followed a course in Numerical Mathematics, in which I've studied and implemented in Matlab and Octave the most used One-Step and Multstep methods (Theta method, Runge-Kutta, Adams-Bashforth).

In these days I have started to learn how to build Octave and to read the Matlab documentation of ode15s.
Although the documentation is very old and it's hard to write that function from scratch, I think I could work also in the algorithm part. I have some experience with the use of sparse matrix techniques, preconditioners and convergence analysis. I think there will be something to improve.

I would really appreciate an opportunity to further my skills working on this project.
Best regards,

Francesco Faccio
