Tim,

Octave could always use QA help to make it better software.  The first step for anyone wanting to get involved is to be able to build the latest development version straight from source.  Try https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/get-involved.html.  If you can get that working, then run 'make check' and look at test/fntests.log.  At the end of the log you will find a list of m-files without tests.  Also, this wiki page is a good resource for how to write BIST tests: http://wiki.octave.org/Add_BIST_tests_for_octave_functions_written_in_C%2B%2B.

And you can always come back to the maintainer's list if you have questions.
