Just a note, every six months or so I have to fix some config details my Octave VM thing so that plotting works. This has been going on for years. Something always breaks eventually, be it on the Mac, the Ubuntu or the Octave side. At the moment I distribute the fix only to those who donate, so in a sense this instability pays me, but it is a pain to see things drift macroscopically out of alignment.
