Thanks for the comments, all very interesting.

Could you apply the patch and do the changes you have in mind about EOL
handling and warnings?

I remember this thread in which John had discussed about performance issues
with strread(), the code in there was really hard to maintain. Don't know how
deep i can go into this, but i'll be trying slowly.
