Follow-up Comment #1:

I modified your patch to follow some coding conventions we like and applied it
here (http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/213ee68b59da).

We prefer double quotes (") unless the behavior of single quotes is
advantageous.  We also put a space between the name of a function and the
opening parenthesis [sin (x)].  This helps distinguish between functions and
indexing a variable which doesn't use a space [var(1:end)].
