Follow-up Comment #1, task #11192 (project octave):

On the stable branch, I backed out the changeset b7d0d6044bd7, resolved
conflicts, and checked in the change.

Then I merged stable with default, undoing all the changes that would have
restored the removed functions on default.  Then I committed that change.

I don't know whether there is a better way to do this.  I hope I got this
right.  If so, then I think it is done.

I did builds on both the stable and default branches after making the changes
and it seems to be OK.
