More like the app developers don't know tiff, not the end user. I have write tiff in a different way depending the application the other people around me are using. Unless you want to use an uncompressed Tif, which totally negates the whole reason for using it. Even Adobe did that very annoying thing with photoshop 7 where the alpha was read in as transparency which when saving back out would hose the alpha and nothing could read it back in. -deke
