[Openvortex-commits] ALSA 0.9.8 on Red hat with kernel 2.4.21-15.EL

I'm trying to get ALSA 0.9.8 drivers to work with
kernel 2.4.21-15.EL.

I downloaded all the ALSA (drivers, utils, lib) rpms, unpack them, bunzip2
them, and untar them. Then I run the ./configure and make and makefiles as
instructed. Then I made the module.conf adjustments as suggested for my
au8830 Turtle Beach chip set.

However when I do a modprobe it can't find htings, and I think that this
is because the make on the driver terminates early, do to improper input
to some binary when it is dealing with the serialmidi files.

I'm at wits end and would appreciate any suggestions...or if anyone has
gotten this sound card to work with this kernel and alsa, I would really
appreciate it.

As far as I can tell, I DO have to run the makes, because alsa does not
come with built in support for the kernel I have. I would love to be
wrong.

I'm trying this on a Dell Dimension XPS T550, with 128 MB of RAM (soon to
be 700MB).
