When I griped about this, it was explained. Pan has dropped the
dependency upon Gnome libraries in order to port it to Windows. The
path history was a Gnome thing, so it has been lost.
(At least, that was the explanation. I know gqView has no Gnome
dependencies, yet still has this path history. Possibly I
misunderstood, and it's a functionality that has been removed from
Gtk2, or it's something the gqView programmer did himself.)
Anyway, we may hope that, down the road a ways, such niceties will
return -- there was discussion of bringing Gnome things back in as
build-time options, once the Windows port is a reality.
