It's bizarre. I've reported it as:

Interestingly, in old newsgroups (that already existed before upgrading
to .93) then if none of the filter options is ticked, it works the same
as "new + unread". Once you've ticked any of them, you can't get back to
that state as "none ticked" means "show everything".
