Googling around, it looks like one thing to try is wrapping
the #include g18n.h lines in extern "C":

--- line-reader.cc.bak  2006-05-28 09:50:22.000000000 -0500
+++ line-reader.cc      2006-05-28 09:50:31.000000000 -0500

 #include <cerrno>
 #include <cstring>
+extern "C"{
 #include <glib/gi18n.h>
+}
 #include "file-util.h"
 #include "line-reader.h"
 #include "log.h"

If this works, it will need to be repeated in quite a few files.
Let me know whether this works or not -- if it works, I can also
file a bug report and patch upstream to glib...
