GNU parallel vs mpiexec on an HPC

Hi there,

I was using GNU parallel to run jobs on an HPC farm and I really like 
it, but is it better to use something like mpiexec instead.  I don't 
know if mpiexec can use shared memory somehow in a more efficient way.
