Thank you for your interest. Note that if this patch is accepted, there 
will need to be some changes to the documentation (mainly the 
applet-howto), which I didn't do, especially regarding the special 
status of the 'name' field, and using the set_name method to set it 
(BTW, I thought that any applet should have PerlPanel::Applet as a base 
class, but viewing some of them I discovered this isn't so. Is this 
intentional?).

I've read a bit about maildir, and it seemed extremely easy to add 
maildir support, so I did it. I attach the patch to Biff.pm. I didn't 
test it at all. If someone uses maildir, I'll be happy to know if it 
works.
