how about a concpet like inheritance for categories?

you could have a global global called clients, then a global addressbook clients
that would include the items from the global global but have it's own acl for
addressbook, then a user could make an address book cat so for his own acl 
addon's
that would inheret/override the acl from the addressbook global for his own 
items

kinda complex, just a thought
