Well, it would make since except that I am using phpGroupware to access a
uncontrolled mail server provided by our ISP. This is not on the same
machine as the web server and I have no way to get access to the machine.
I appreciate everyone's help, but I don't think that anyone is quite getting
that fact. This is a very controlled environment that the server is in and
everything is kept seperate. The web server I have contains only a database
instance and Apache.
Once again, thanks to those that have tried thus far.

Hi
FWIW I had something similar when I migrated my phpgw config from one hard
disk to
another using a copy process. The drive was dying and I added a new larger
drive
and simply moved most of my files across. Somewhere in the move I must have
messed
up the mail directories or had the permissions not quite right (cannot
recall
exact details).
As a result all my older emails, which existed as actual files in the mail
directory, showed up as no subject 1k files in phpgw (using either the
anglemail
fork as it was then or the default email app).
In the end I used a netscape imap client on the same message store and
forwarded
the essential stuff to myself and deleted the rest. I spent many spare hours
over
a week or so trying to sort out what settings needed to change but I was not
patient enough.
The main thing I kept coming back to, was that any new email was processed
correctly, only the stuff that I had copied was not. I know this is not a
solution, but it might provide a clue as to what is happening with your own
setup.
cheers
Tony
