I think it's a feature because you can easily select who should receive 
your answer.
- to send your answer just to the original poster, use the "reply"
  function
- to send a reply to the list, use KMails list-reply feature.
  Before you use list-reply, setup the lists mail adress in the folder 
  properties. Then you can answer to the list by pressing L (instead of
  R) or selecting message - reply to mailing list [1].

[1] I use the German KMail, so the name of the Menu entry may differ.
