I've seen a few of those messages, but not an `infinite flood' of
them.  

I'm going to do a lot of tidying up of the plotting stuff just as soon
as I get the EXAMINE command stable.  In particular, the interface
will be somewhat lower level than what's there currently, which will
make it easier to re-use the code for different commands.  Eg: the
histogram I've done for the FREQUENCIES command doesn't 
easily lend itself to the EXAMINE command, which also has a
/PLOT=histogram subcommand.

Also, I noticed that gsl has features for constructing histograms
(collecting the data, not rendering them) so I may end up using that.
