Thanks I'll look into that. I didn't realize these image editing packages had those abilities. That, would certainly be much better than doing mannually.

Rather than going to the trouble of manually converting every image (twice!)  it would
more maintainable and less effort if we automatically converted them.  This way, only one
image format needs to be checked into the repository and if an image ever needs to be
edited or replaced we don't have to worry about each copy becoming inconsistent.

Fortunately, Gimp has a scripting feature which should make this possible.
