     This variable was given an unfortunate name.  You can change its
     name from "signal" to, say, "signals", and it should fix the
     problem.  You'll need to fix up several references in the file.
     
     I'll leave it to John (CC'd) to decide on a permanent fix.

I've checked in a change to all the g_objects which use this symbol.
Let me know if I've missed any.
