So before this change:

(QEMU) ringbuf-read device=foo size=-1
{"error": {"class": "GenericError", "desc": "size must be greater than zero"}}

after:

(QEMU) ringbuf-read device=foo size=-1
{"return": ""}

Is this really what we want?
