I have a 9.1.0, constantly updated according to official packages, and  
with a few from outside or home-made (soundtracker, heeheehee). SDL  
seems an original package from the distribution. I guess it was a  
permission problem or such. Anyway, under 9.1 I was never capable to  
get a sound library correctly detected at link time, even operating as  
root. A Gentoo user told me that it might be a linker problem he had  
already discussed (with no feedback) on some other list.
