have a look at http://www.bablokb.de/bochs-tools. It contains a tool
bxtcreate, which allows images greater than 2 gig. I have used it to
create an image of 10 gig (bzips down to just 1 KB) and installed
MDK 10.1, Kanotix and SuSe in it using qemu.
