It's actually pretty simple with KVM.FWIW, I don't see guests consume a tremendous amount of CPU when idle with KVM. Can ya'll post some numbers with OpenGL and QEMU that show reduced CPU consumption? I'm going to try out the patches myself but if you have a test case that is known to benefit, that would be helpful.
