Yeah, there's precedent too.
Or: $ readlink /usr/share/qemu/machine-types/pc.dt
That works if you have exactly one qemu installed. It's best if qemu itself is the entry point (qemu -print-device-tree).
Though I wouldn't want to inflict it upon the management application writers.
