Agreed. Instead we should work towards improve the configurability of QEMU via monitor commands or -readconfig. libvirt is already using -nodefaults on recent QEMU, so this is not _that_ far away.

I've also got a series that's just about ready to go based on Glauber's -machine option which converts quite a lot of existing options to config based.
