Try:

$ git log -p ./VERSION

Anthony manages this file, what he does is:

x.y.50 - development branch
x.y.90 - Next version -rc0 release
x.y.91 - Next version -rc1 release
...

When he tags QEMU 1.1 he will change the version to 1.1.0.  It's too
early to do this now since we still need more -rc releases before 1.1.0
stable is released.

The only person who needs to update this file in Anthony since he
creates the release.
